Final Reflection

The End of Our Journey & The Beginning of My Journey

Some of the most formative or memorable experiences from this course include all the of self-reflection assignments. The moments this class pushed me to go outside my comfort zone or to deeply reflect about myself. For example, our assignment that prompted us to ask the five people closest to us to share how they view us. Once we got their responses we had to compare their opinions with our own that we wrote before. This was by far my favorite assignment because truly knowing your strengths and weaknesses as a person is such an advantage. Knowing how to best understand when you need to stop or keep going. Understanding what motivates you and what people see in you is something everyone needs to come to terms with. All the good and bad things about yourself. One of the hardest yet most interesting and fun was our Free Money assignment. It was way harder than I thought to interrupt someone and then falsify the reason I was trying to give them a dollar. Even though it was something I believed in, I could not share that the whole assignment was for a class and for some reason that made a bigger difference than I could have imagined. I am not a fan of video taping myself so I did not complete any of the elevator pitches and am disappointed I did not attempt any of them.

I definitely see how Entrepreneurship is supposed to help gear us towards a different mindset. I think the class excels at trying to get us out of our comfort zone. There was a big emphasis on creative thought for the class and I really enjoyed that. I have always considered myself an out of the box thinker and always have supported entrepreneurial thought. This class definitely helps to identify weaknesses and strengths in all kinds of areas. For all of our venture concept ideas there was always another piece missing or something that needed to be tweaked. Having our classmates constantly giving us constructive criticism also helped us figure out all the last little problems we maybe couldn’t have identified ourselves. I see myself having a more critical thought process than I did before and I owe that to this class. I see things from more perspectives than I did before. The only thing left is to go out into the world and begin making mistakes and begin learning from them. Class prepares us as best it can but only experience can create a fine tuned entrepreneur.

As a future student in this class I would say the two most important things to consider are to start early and attempt everything. As I said before this class can take some people out of their comfort zones including myself. Even if certain assignments make you nervous, trying your best won’t hurt. I regret not attempting the elevator pitches and I really wish I could have. It is important to know the extent of your weaknesses which is why having done the elevator pitch would have helped me become a stronger speaker. Another issue I had in this class is leaving my assignments till last. The class allows you to work ahead and I definitely would. Most of the assignments are thought based and can be completed whenever you have a quick hour. I took to completing my assignments in cute coffee shops and it became a nice time of reflection. There were just some days when I would not prioritize and would end up rushing to finish my assignments before the deadline. I could have easily avoided that.
